The real story

A second chance.
A world of firsts.

Scout came home on 26 March 2026.

Joyce and Sinead helped him to safety. Ross and Barry brought him home. A different life began in Wicklow.

01 · Before Wicklow

A cattle shed and a chain.

Scout was a working dog. When his work was done, he was chained in a cattle shed. That earlier life is part of his story, and the reason behind this campaign.

Joyce brought him from the farm to the kennels in Newtown Mountkennedy. She called Sinead. Sinead messaged Ross, and Ross messaged Barry.

Coming home.

Barry met Scout at the kennels. The next day, he returned with Ross. Ross drove the silver Mercedes to Wicklow; Barry sat in the back beside Scout.

Barry slept downstairs with him on the first night. There was a morning howl and the slow business of learning to trust. Patience helped. Roast chicken also made a persuasive contribution.

03 · The months that followed

Time to find his feet.

Joyce gave Scout a name that suits him. He scouts things out calmly: watching, waiting and deciding for himself when to join in.

He is patient and gentle. Loud noises, especially farm machinery and trailers, can still unsettle him. He needs time and reassurance.

Nearly five months passed before his first game of fetch. Every day was a school day.

04 · Out & about

A bigger world.

The river, the woods, the hills and good company. The freedom to investigate, to play and to rest.

Scout’s story is still unfolding. We share the real photographs alongside The Scout Report, where his thoughts are imagined.

His second chance has one wider purpose: to help dogs still living on chains.
