01 · The farm and rescue
Before the bigger world
The Scout Report
“I had quite a small world then. It turns out I hadn’t seen the half of it.”
A word from Scout · imagined dialogue
Scout’s world had been a cattle shed and a chain. Farm workers told Joyce that he was going to be shot because he was not considered good enough at his job.
Joyce brought him from the farm to the kennels in Newtown Mountkennedy. She called Sinead and explained that he was stressed. Sinead messaged Ross; Ross messaged Barry.
Barry went to meet Scout at the kennels. The following day, he returned with Ross to collect him. This is where the first-days comic begins.
The events come from Scout’s real story. His thoughts and dialogue are imagined, and some editions contain adult humour. Earlier comics keep their original titles here.
