The Scout Report · Chapter 4 · The continuing story
Barry has help.
Scout would like a word.
A discovery inside the laptop.

The Scout Report · Imagined story
Scout has noticed that Barry sometimes asks the laptop a question without arranging a meeting first.
An answer appears. There is no discussion about finding a time that suits everyone.
This deserves further investigation.
ScoutWho’s Chat?
BarryMy assistant. Helps me with research and writing.
ScoutDoes Chat have to wait until you finish talking?
Scout has questions of his own. Questions about working dogs. Questions about what happens when the working day ends. Questions about why some dogs are still living on chains.
For the first time, the laptop looks as though it might be useful to a collie.
One question at a time.
The story now moves towards Scout’s research with Chat: understanding the campaign, asking what Ireland could change and working out how a petition might help.
Scout remains a dog discovering a bigger world. He has not suddenly become an expert. He has found somewhere to begin.
Next in the story: the night shift
Proposed next beat: Barry finishes work. Scout’s investigation continues.
“Barry’s finished for the day. I have a follow-up question.”
The night shift leads to Scout recruiting Chat and preparing a campaign brief. We develop those beats in sequence, alongside his real everyday adventures.
Scout’s thoughts and dialogue are imagined; his real photographs and history are recorded separately.
A working dog is still a dog.
A little curiosity.
A reason to care.
The petition is drafted and awaiting publication. Signatures are not being collected yet.
